Personal Biography:

Lisa C. Carlson was born in Yokohama, Japan and immigrated to the United States when she was four. She was raised in Austin, Texas. She attended Amherst College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Asian Studies in 1992. In 1996, she received her J.D. from the University of Texas, School of Law. Lisa worked as a litigator in Washington D.C., representing doctors, lawyers, accountants, and other professionals in malpractice suits. Lisa also has experience in maritime Jones Act defense litigation and family law.

Lisa has concentrated her practice to immigration law since 2008, when she returned to the legal field after taking time off to be a stay-at-home mother to her two daughters. Her practice focuses on researching and writing about issues arising from employment-based and family-sponsored immigrant and non-immigrant visas.

When she is not being a mom or a lawyer, Lisa plays, performs, and teaches taiko at the San Francisco Taiko Dojo. She also sits on the Board of Nakayoshi Gakko, a Japanese cultural camp, in Mountain View.
